Required Qualifications

L.J. Kennedy is committed to quality & safety. This requires us to maintain high standards for our drivers. Many drivers cannot pass these requirements; our standards are high and make recruitment difficult. Only the best belong at L.J. Kennedy. We hope you understand.

Without professional drivers, we cannot provide our customers with the level of service they have come to demand from us.


You must be 24 years or older

Your references must be verifiable

You may not have more than 2 moving violations on your CDL, in the past 3 years

You must have 2 years, or more, of tractor-trailer experience

You must pass a drug test, road test & company physical to meet DOT & company requirements

You must possess a CDL, Class A in your state of residence

You may not have a DUI/DWI or a failed drug or alcohol test in the past 5 years

You must break-in with a L.J. Kennedy driver/trainer for up to 5-10 days of orientation, training & assessment, depending on your prior flatbed experience (You are paid $90 - $110 per day during your orientation phase).
You will receive information about our pay and benefits, as well as instruction in Load-securement and defensive driving. Training in the use of the Qualcomm system is also provided, as is instruction in safe tarping procedures. There is one day of classroom orientation followed by 4-9 days of on the road training with a veteran LJK driver, depending on your prior flatbed experience. (Lodging and travel costs are paid by L.J. Kennedy Trucking).

You may not have more than 2 preventable accidents in the past 3 years

Flatbed experience is a plus, but it is not essential

No reckless driving citations in the past 5 years are permitted

You may not have more than four employers in the last five years, excluding employers that have ceased operation.

You must have driven a tractor-trailer within 6 months of your date-of-hire.

NO HAZMAT-ENDORSEMENT IS REQUIRED
(L.J. Kennedy does not haul hazardous materials).

You must be able to lift and maneuver tarps that weigh 130-140# each.

You must be able to climb to heights of 13'6", and work at these heights.
